Floor care
Caring for ATS Timber.
A few simple habits keep an engineered oak floor looking the way we left it.
Regular cleaning
- Sweep, dust mop or vacuum regularly to remove dirt and grit.
- Use a vacuum with a hard-floor setting where possible.
- Clean spills promptly so moisture never sits on the boards.
- Use entrance mats at external doors to reduce dirt tracked inside.
- Choose non-staining mats; avoid rubber-backed, latex-backed or coco fibre mats directly on the boards.
Mopping and products
- Use a lightly damp microfibre mop for routine cleaning.
- Avoid excessive water during cleaning.
- Use cleaning products made specifically for timber flooring.
- Always follow the cleaning product maker’s instructions.
Steam mops are not recommended. Excessive heat and moisture can damage the floor and may affect warranty coverage.
Furniture and heavy items
- Apply felt pads to furniture legs.
- Lift furniture when moving it rather than dragging it.
- Use protective mats beneath office chairs and anything that moves often.
- Avoid dropping heavy or sharp objects onto the floor.
Pets and everyday wear
- Keep pet nails trimmed to help minimise scratching.
- Close curtains or blinds where strong sun strikes the floor; heat and UV fade timber just as they fade furnishings.
- Place mats beneath pet water bowls.
- Remove sand, stones and grit promptly; underfoot they act like sandpaper.
Moisture and conditions
- Wipe up spills as soon as practical.
- Never let standing water remain on the floor.
- Timber moves with humidity: big swings can cause boards to cup, crown or peak.
- Aim for 18 to 25°C indoors with relative humidity between 30 and 70 percent.
What to avoid
Keep these away from your ATS Timber floor:
- Steam mops
- Wet mopping or excessive water
- Harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners
- Steel wool or scouring pads
- Dragging furniture across the floor
- Standing water or flooding
- Rubber-backed or coco fibre mats directly on the boards
