Collection Floor care

Caring for Oak Plank.

Wide boards reward a little routine: mats at the doors, a stable indoor climate, and a regular dry mop.

Part of the Oak Plank range

Entrances and regular cleaning

  • Use doormats outside each entrance so dirt, sand and grit never reach the boards.
  • Choose non-staining mats on the floor itself; avoid rubber-backed, latex-backed or coco fibre mats.
  • Sweep or vacuum regularly with a hard-floor setting.
  • Shake out rugs and runners in busy areas often.

Mopping and products

  • Damp mop only, with the least water that does the job.
  • Absorb spills quickly rather than spreading them.
  • Avoid oils, soaps, waxes and general household cleaners on the boards.

Steam mops are not recommended. Excessive heat and moisture can damage the floor and may affect warranty coverage.

Furniture and heavy items

  • Support furniture on wide, non-staining floor protectors at least 25mm across, sitting flat.
  • Felt protectors work well; use soft casters or felt under anything mobile.
  • Put protection mats beneath wheeled chairs.
  • Lay strips of wood or hardboard as runways before moving heavy furniture or appliances, wheels or not.

Sunlight and everyday wear

  • Close curtains or blinds where strong sun strikes the floor; heat and UV fade timber just as they fade furnishings.
  • Keep pet nails trimmed and shake grit from paws-height rugs.
  • High heels and gravel-studded soles mark any floor; rugs in busy runs help.

Indoor climate

  • Timber moves with humidity: big swings can cause boards to cup, crown or peak.
  • Aim for 18 to 25°C indoors with relative humidity between 30 and 70 percent.
  • Wipe up spills promptly and never leave standing water.

What to avoid

Keep these away from your Oak Plank floor:

  • Steam mops
  • Wet mopping or excessive water
  • Harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners
  • Steel wool or scouring pads
  • Dragging furniture across the floor
  • Standing water or flooding
  • Rubber-backed or coco fibre mats directly on the boards
